Gapless playback on Play Music app?

Gapless playback on Play Music app?

I bought a new album off of Amazon that is obviously supposed to be gapless but playing it on the Play Music app on my HTC One M8, there are gaps. I looked into how to get rid of the gaps and saw that Play Music updated the app in 2012 to incorporate gapless playback. I contacted a Play Music customer service employee today to see if they could help because I couldn't figure it out, and they said the album I downloaded had to come gapless first in order for it to work. I might be thinking about this too hard, but in order for an album to be truly gapless, it had to be one continuous track, correct? So the entire album wouldn't have any gaps - it would be one track. So why would Google have to update Play Music to allow gapless playback if albums with gaps couldn't be gapless?
