I'm getting a huge battery drain from my Kernel when I'm not using my phone

I'm currently using an HTC One M8 and love it, except for the battery has been acting up lately. For example, I just went to the store (took me about and hour) and didn't use my phone at all. By the time I got back I had lost about 20% of my battery! Can anyone explain what is happening?
