New to Android - coming from iOS - UX questions

New to Android - coming from iOS - UX questions

I'm coming to Android from iOS (for work) and there are things I really miss about iOS. I'm sure Android has similar functionality, but I haven't quite figured out how to get the functionality I'm looking for. If anyone has suggestions I'd be appreciative. This is not a bash on Android, just a discussion about UX and personal preference.

  1. Anyone have a launcher they like that is stable? I don't like having an app drawer, I just want one home screen with all my apps / easier to manage. I've been using ONE launcher, and I really like it. It gives me a swipe to search and a way to easily remove apps. - but it crashes on me pretty much daily.

  2. I like badge notifications - I can look down and know which apps I need to pay attention to. Is there a way to manage notifications on a global level rather than per app? I would rather have this than notifications, it clutters up my status bar and there are so many notifications sorting through them becomes a pain in the ass. It also seems that apps aren't as responsive with their push notifications? As in I get them way late.

  3. Visual Voicemail. Not native (Samsung GalaxyS5). I've downloaded a few 3rd party apps, but the experience... they just visually look terrible. As a designer, I'd like to have like a bundle of phone/visualvoicemail/messages that all look like they belong together.

  4. iMessages. Do I just have to unregister with apple's servers? I like using iMessages on my computer and iPad, and it doesn't cost me anything. I'd like to continue using it, but I want to continue receiving messages from my friends. My wife can't text me right now using her iPhone. What do I do?

  5. iCloud... what do you all use as backup?

I really like adding apps from the Play Store website.. wanted to say something positive! Thanks!
