Google Play Store - Connection issues / frustrations

Google Play Store - Connection issues / frustrations

Hey everyone,

So I've been having this problem intermittently over the course of about a month and a half now. What is happening with my device is that, under some circumstances I cannot figure out, my Play Store just decides to stop connecting. I've Googled the hell out of this issue to no resolve. There's a couple of ways I've been able to temporarily 'solve' this in the past, and there are a couple of symptoms it shows when its happening. Here's the deets:

• Device is an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910H) that has never been rooted. Running KitKat, (as Lollipop probably won't come to my country.) The most customization I have running is Nova launcher, don't know if that matters. *As a side note, if anyone can help me get Lollipop on this device, that would be super rad.

• Another point I wanted to add, is that I live in Bermuda and my provider is both completely unable to provide support for a multitude of reasons, mainly due to incompetence and lack of general knowledge throughout, unofficial 'support' and your run of the mill crap talking. There is absolutely no way I can get support from my provider. I have also tried going through Samsung's support online, but due to my country being a part of 'Latin America / Caribbean", all the call centers / online support is in Spanish. I don't speak a lick of Spanish.

Anyways, issues, three different scenarios:

  1. Google Play Store opens, I can browse and peruse every tab EXCEPT for "Apps" in which it provides the error: "Error retrieving information from server [DF-DFERH-01]" - I can still update and redownload apps I own, and apps in ANY OTHER part of the app store except for the main 'Apps' tab.

  2. Google Play Store does NOT load correctly, and I get the same "Error retrieving information from server [DF-DFERH-01]". Does not leave this state, sidebar containing account information does not load correctly.

  3. "Check your connection and try again." - Does not leave this state, sidebar containing account information does not load correctly.

  4. "Check your connection and try again." - Does not leave this state, sidebar containing account information does load but does not allow me to access my previously installed apps.

So far the only way I have managed to "fix" this has been to quit out of the Play Store, navigate into my App Manager and "Clear Data / Clear Cache" each of the following: Google Accounts, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework. Once this is done, I remove my Google account from the 'accounts' section in my settings, and restart the phone. This only works for a certain period of time before the Play Store conks out again, and I have to repeat this grueling process. This process also is not guaranteed to work every time.

I'd also like to add that once this issue starts, my Google-based applications stop sending my phone push notifications - for instance if I get an email (using Google Inbox) my iPad immediately goes off, but my Galaxy does not. When my Play Store works, my Galaxy will go off right away.

I appreciate any and all support that anyone can provide.
