Hey, everyone! I felt compelled to share my technological journey that I have had over the past few months because it truly changed how my daily life operates. This isn’t some circlejerk to Google nor is it to shit on Apple. I just wanted t share my thoughts. I hope you enjoy!
TL;DR: I felt tech around me was clunky. I go to Google and they be like, "I gotchu bruh."
So I started with the Apple trifecta: iPhone, Mac, and iPad. I thought everything was great with the fenced in approach. Everything just worked, to a point. My first irking was with iCloud. It did not “just work” for me. Syncing felt clunky and I felt out of control of the situation. Like the rest of my classmate at college, I transitioned to Drive. This was my first Google experience outside of gmail and loved the simplicity yet control I had over my documents. Next irking was with iCloud photo storage. 5GB did not work for me. I transitioned my backup with Google+, and again it work flawlessly for me. I began to have this voice in the back of my head that Google was starting to fulfill my needs better than my current ecosystem. I hated that because when I looked elsewhere, I couldn’t find a solution. During the Holo days of Android, I could not stand the aesthetic of it. I loved how Apple products looked. OSX and iOS had such a minimal feel to it, I just couldn’t get into Google’s take on design.
In comes Lollipop. Material design looked incredible to me. Minimalism at its finest. It had such an effect on me that I actually went out and took the plunge into Android. Why not, right? I bought a Nexus 6 and migrated all of my data into my Gmail. I wanted stock because of its simplicity. I originally bought the phone for the look of Lollipop, but to this day I am shocked how organized my life has become.
Because of work, I am on 5-7 different windows computers outside of my personal gadgets. Signing into chrome, having all of my data like Calendar, Keep, mail, photos, and Documents all in a single login blew my mind. Every computer that I can sign into chrome feels like a coherent experience. And that experience then translates to my phone. I was able to be fully reliant on my Nexus to handle everything I could do on my computer. I never felt like that on iOS. So much so, I actually sold my iPad bc the functionality of my phone replaced what I used it for. I also found my Mac to be perfectly compatible with the google app launcher and syncing through gmail.
I have control over my phone. I get to tinker and perfect every facet of my experience. I like that a lot. It get’s better each day, too. With Google inbox, I fly through emails with a breeze. Events and notifications are handled elegantly for me. As a result, all of these little things I overlooked resulted into an entirely new experience.
It may sound silly, but I felt overwhelmed by all of the data I had to sort through daily. My transition to Android and Google has simplified my life and gain so much control over the tech side of it. I am able to burn through notifications and catch up with important information at a fraction of what I was able to do in iOS. It gives me more time to devote elsewhere. Everything I need is at my fingertips or at any computer I can sit at. I love that feeling. I love Android for what it has done for me.
edit: I suck at formatting.
