I have a question about the Google Play services and WiFi usage (x-post from GalaxyS5)

First of all, I'm not sure if this a Galaxy S5 thing or an Android thing. If you check out the album I posted below, there are 4 screenshots of the wireless usage: the last 3 months, and showing that a huge chunk of that is due to the Google Play services app. The last 2 months have seen a huge increase in WiFi usage; the screenshot of 3 months ago shows a more typical month.

It's not a huge deal that it is using so much wireless bandwidth - I have unlimited bandwidth usage at home, and I really haven't noticed a big increase in battery consumption.

I suppose my question is this: what the hell is it doing that it is using so much bandwidth all of a sudden??? My best guess, it has something to do with the OS update that happened for me about a month and a half ago, as that timeline makes sense.

I'm not sure if the Google Contacts Sync is using all the bandwidth or not. I figure it may be, because on that 4th picture in the album, the 63.33GB is on the same line. Almost all of it is "Background". No issues with using much mobile data at all, only over WiFi.

Anyway, any and all help to answer this would be appreciated! I'm on the Telus network in Canada,
