liquidsmooth 3.2 for GS3 - tried install guide and failed. Can't recall the error (occured in TWRP).

Device: Samsung Galaxy SIII i747 (d2att / d2lte) Carrier AT&T

I was looking to switch ROMs. I think I have CM11 M8 which has been a bit crashy lately. I've been wanting to switch ROMs to anything lightweight and not associated with douchebaggery.

I found this guide and downloaded "Lean Kernel" and appropriate gapps file. I've done this before with CM before with no issues. I backed up my phone. Then tried to flash the lean kernel and but there was an error with the gapps. I tried a gapps in my CM11 folder on my microsd and installed that with the lean kernel and it seemed to install too quickly. I rebooted phone and it was stuck on the GS3 logo. I was able to reboot into recovery and restore my backup.

I guess my questions are:

Did I do something wrong in following that guide?

If I was to choose a ROM other than CM, what would be good for my old/slow phone (Galaxy S3 i747, AT&T)?
