Making a bad/old phone usable

Hey guys, I've owned a Galaxy Young Duos for a year now, after my good ol' SII went swimming in the toilet. I endured the slowness, buggyness and horrible, horrible internal memory problems holding on to the idea that I'd get a new phone for free thanks to bonuses my aunt gets. However, we just found out the only phones avaliable were even worse, and now I'm stuck with this thing here for another year.

I use my iPod for most of my music and share an iPad for gaming, so really I just want to be able to use utilities and social networks without the pressing need to throw this brick at the nearest wall. If there's a way to make the phone ignore the internal memory altogether, that would be a lifesaver already! Any suggestions? Roots, ROMs, anything?
